East German rower Olaf Förster, husband of teammate Kerstin Förster, won the gold medal with the coxless fours at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. He also won three World Championship golds in 1987-89, and three bronze medals, 1985-86, and 1990.
Domestically, Förster won the national title in 1985, and again from 1987-90. By profession, he worked for an insurance company. He also became president of his home club Dresdener Ruder-Club.
