Dieter Semetzky was cox of the East German coxed fours crew that won the Olympic silver medal at Mexico in 1968. In 1965, he had won a silver, and in 1966, a bronze medal, at the East German Championships with the coxed fours of SC Einheit Dresden. In 1968, he won his only national title.
Semetzky later obtained a captain’s license and went to sea. From 1985 he ran a holiday resort before owning a travel agency after reunification.
