Biography

Dieter Wendisch won consecutive rowing gold medals with the East German coxed eights at the 1976 Montréal, and 1980 Moskva Olympics, with the coxed fours. In 1975 he won the East German title with the eights, and in 1977-78 with the coxed fours. He won the World Championships with the coxed eights in 1975 and with the coxed fours in 1977-78.

By profession, Wendisch became a mechanical engineer. He later became technical director for the Altenberg bobsleigh, luge, and skeleton track.
