Biography

Kristina Mundt represented East Germany as a rower in the quadruple sculls at the 1985 World Championships, and 1988 Seoul Olympics. In both cases she won the gold medal. After re-unification she continued her career and won two more gold medals at the 1992 Barcelona Games and 1994 Worlds. She was subsequently awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, Germany’s highest sports award. In 1992, she and the quadruple sculls crew were awarded the German media prize BAMBI. In 1993, she added a silver medal at the Worlds.

During her career, Mundt had severe problems with her right elbow which had to be operated on seven times. She later married wrestling coach Jörg Richter and raised two children. Mundt studied sports science, and worked with the general regional health insurance (AOK) Leipzig.
