West German rower Peter Betz, brother of Hans Betz, finished fifth, and last, in the final with the coxed eights at the 1952 Helsinki Olympic Games. With his club Kölner Ruderverein von 1877 he won the German national titles in 1950 and 1952 and in 1951 finished second. In 1954 Betz moved to the fours winning both national titles (coxed and coxless) that same year.
