Rowers Michael Dürsch, Albert Hedderich, Raimund Hörmann and Dieter Wiedenmann made up the quadruple sculls crew at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, capturing the gold medal by just 0.43 seconds from Australia. Therefore, the crew was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, Germany’s highest sports award. The crew also won bronze at the 1978 World Championships, silver in 1979 and 1982, and another gold in 1983, beating East Germany for the first time ever.
Nationally, Dürsch won four titles with Hedderich in the double sculls, and was also a member of the winning quadruple scull crew every year from 1977-85. He married non-Olympian team-mate Ursula Decker. Dürsch later owned an insurance agency at Ingelheim.
