German rower Uwe Kellner was on the coxed fours crew that won the silver medal at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, when this event was held for the last time at the Olympics. The crew was subsequently awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, Germany’s highest sports award. The same crew also won the national title in 1992. Kellner had already had won the GDR national coxless pairs titles with non-Olympian Thomas Jung in 1989 and 1990. The duo also won the World Championships in those two years.
