Rower Ralph Kubail won the bronze medal with the West German coxed fours at the 1976 Montréal Games. In 1974 and 1975, Kubail also won bronze with the coxed fours at the World Championships. Domestically, he won a silver in 1972, and a bronze in 1973, with the coxed fours. Kubail died in 1981 from lymph gland cancer at just 29-years-of-age.
