Rower Bernhard Stomporowski, later husband of Katrin Rutschow-Stomporowski, was a member of the German lightweight coxless fours that finished fifth at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. At the World Championships he won three gold medals (1989, 1990, 1998), one silver (1987), and three bronzes (1992, 1994, 1995) with the lightweight coxless fours and lightweight eights.
Domestically, Stomporowski won national titles with the lightweight coxless pairs in 1991 and 1992; with the lightweight quadruple sculls in 1985; with the lightweight coxless fours in 1989- 91, 1994-96, and 1998; and with the lightweight eights in 1986-87, 1990, 1992, 1994, 1997, and 1999.
Stomporowski later turned to coaching and moved to the United States. In 2018, he was named head national coach in China.
