Ulrich Viefers was a German rower with the eights at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics that put up the strongest fight against the Netherlands in the final, winning the silver medal. Therefore, the whole crew was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, Germany’s highest sports award. In 1993, Viefers won a bronze medal at the World Championships with the coxed fours. Domestically, Viefers won five national titles, in 1993 with the coxed fours, in 1995 and 1998 with the coxless fours, and in 1996 and 1998 with the eights. By profession, he became a graduated tax consultant.
