Frigyes Kubinyi

Frigyes Kubinyi began his boxing career in the colors of NSC in 1925, and after 1936 continued with FTC. Between 1931 and 1940 Kubinyi won five individual Hungarian championship titles and twice won team titles.

Between 1930 and 1940 Kubinyi earned 28 caps. In 1934, he won the silver medal at the European Championship. After the tournament Kubinyi was selected to the Europen team against an All-American team. He was selected twice for the Olympics, but in 1932 he unfortunately could not start because he developed otitis media (ear infection) on the ship and had surgery in Los Angeles. Kubinyi started at the Berlin Olympics and was eliminated in the second round by the later Olympic champion Ulderico Sergo of Italy.

In 1941 Kubinyi turned professional for a short time. At the end of the war, he was imprisoned in Russia for three years. He barely rested after the captivity, wanting to return to the ring, and was certified for the Budapest Locomotive. After training one day, Kubinyi stood in the cold shower, collapsed, and died in the gym.
