Renato Petronio competed in coxed fours at the 1928 and 1936 Olympics, winning gold in 1928. At the European Championships he won six medals, including four golds, all in the coxed fours. Petronio won golds in 1929 and 1932-34, adding a silver in 1930 and a bronze in 1935. All his Olympic and European medals were won together with Nicolò Vittori and Valerio Perentin. Petronio was awarded the Gold Medal of the Italian Olympic Committee for his rowing achievements.
