Dutch rower Hadriaan van Nes represented Laga in Delft and made an immediate impact on the international scene. Van Nes made his international début at the 1965 European Championships where he won bronze in the coxed pairs. With Jan van de Graaff and coxswain Poul de Haan, he then won gold at the 1966 World Championships in Bled, Yugoslavia. The Dutch crew went to the 1968 Mexico City Olympics as one of the favourites, but Van Nes was the only remaining member of the team that won gold at the World Championships. Along with fellow rower Herman Suselbeek and coxswain Rody Rijnders, the Dutch crew finished second to the Italians in Mexico to take home silver.
Van Nes was married to Meike de Vlas who was also a successful Dutch rower in the 1960s. Their daughter Eeke van Nes competed in the sport too, winning bronze at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics and two silvers at the 2000 Sydney Games. After his rowing career Van Nes later moved to Norway for work.
