Biography

Øyvin Davidsen rowed with the Norske Studenters Roklubb team in the coxed four at the 1912 Olympic Games in Stockholm. After advancing by forfeit in the first round in the first round, they lost to the eventual silver medallists from the Thames Rowing Club.

Davidsen graduated from commercial college in Oslo in 1911 and then completed a practical business training in various countries including England, Germany and the United States. In 1914-16 he worked in the shipping department of the Sigval Bergesen company in Stavanger. In 1916, Davidsen founded his own shipbuilding company, later adding an import and export business.

Eventually, Davidsen became co-owner of newspapers and publishing houses. He published a number of books, mainly on press history, and was chairman of the Conservative Party’s newspaper owners’ organisation. In 1964, he was awarded the King’s Medal of Merit in gold.
