Biography

Herman Dahlbäck was a rower from Malmö RK. Together with two of his club mates and two rowers from Helsingborgs RK, Dahlbäck took part in the 1912 Olympic Games in Stockholm as part of the Roddklubben af 1912 team. With him on the stroke of the inriggers coxed four, the boat eliminated the two Norwegian boats in the first two rounds, but lost in the final against the Danish team from Nykjøbings paa Falster to win silver. All five team members also rowed in the eights. In this event the team of the Roddklubben af 1912 lost to the eventual silver medallists from the New College, Oxford in the quarter-final.

Considered one of the best Swedish rowers of the time before World War I, he won a total of six Swedish Championships and six Nordic Championships in various boat classes (single sculls, fours and eights) between 1912 and 1916.

Dahlbäck worked for decades as a customs inspector in Malmö. He was married to Stina Gudrun Elisabet Alfelt and had one child.
