Hugh O’Hagan won the national Irish junior light heavyweight boxing title in 1943 as a member of Shortt and Harland Boxing Club. He continued in his success, winning Irish lightweight National Senior Championship titles in 1945 and 1948 as a member of Corinthians Boxing Club, Dublin. He was selected to represent Ireland at the 1948 Olympics and competed in the light heavyweight division, losing in the quarterfinals to Australian Adrian Holmes.
