Russian rower Boris Vorobyov was a three-time Soviet champion in the eight, winning consecutive titles from 1972 to 1974. In 1972 Vorobyov was part of the crew that competed at the München Olympics, just missing out on a medal after finishing fourth. The team won their heat and then came second in their semi-final, before finishing behind the East German team who won bronze. The following year Vorobyov won bronze in the eight at the European Championships in Moskva. After retiring he worked as a coach at the Youth Sports School in his home city of Kolomna.
