Alison Townley

Alison Townley was on the US National team from 1985-92, competing at the 1988 and 1992 Olympic Games, in the eight in 1988 and the quad sculls in 1992. She won four silver medals at the 1986 and 1990 Goodwill Games, in the eight and quad sculls in 1986, and the single and double sculls in 1990. She also competed at five World Championships, from 1985-91, as a sweeper in the four in 1985-87, in single sculls in 1989, and doubles in 1990-91, winning a bronze medal in 1990. Townley rowed at Harvard, graduating in 1987. She was awarded the Radcliffe College Alumnae Association Award in 1987 and was a four-time All-Ivy selection.

Townley began working as a brand manager for L’Oreal in New York. After marriage, she and her husband (Kurtis Fechtmeyer) moved to the Bay Area, where she worked in marketing for Chevron. She left that job after several years, and turned to a new athletic endeavor. Townley began riding horses at Redwood Stables and then Skyline Ranch and began training in dressage.
