Bill Belden rowed at LaSalle University and for Undine Barge Club in Philadelphia. Belden was a sculler who competed in singles and doubles, both heavyweights and lightweights. In addition to his 1976 Olympic appearance, he made the 1980 US Olympic team in single sculls. He competed at 10 World Championships between 1974-84, twice in heavyweight doubles in 1977 and 1979. In Lightweight World Championships, Belden won seven medals from 1974-82, with singles golds in 1974 and 1979, silvers in singles in 1980 and doubles in 1981-82, and bronzes in single sculls in 1975 and 1978.
Belden’s career was as a banker, later becoming an investment counselor at PNC Bank in Pennsylvania. He later took a position as President and COO of Farmers First Bank, and then CEO of Susquehanna Bank. Belden finished his 40-year career in financial services by returning to PNC in Investment Management. He ia a member of the National Rowing Hall of Fame, and the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame.
