David Fellows

David Fellows graduated from Harvard in 1974 with a degree in engineering and applied physics, and later earned a masters degree from Northeastern, and then an MBA degree in the Program for Management Development from Harvard. He captained the Harvard crew team as a senior and helped them win the 1974 NAAO (National Association of Amateur Oarsmen) title in coxed fours. Fellows won two medals at the Pan American Games, a bronze in coxed fours in 1975 and a silver in coxless pairs in 1979. He competed at the 1973 European Championships and the 1974-75 World Championships in coxed fours, and unusually, in the singles sculls at the 1979 Worlds.

In the business world Fellows was quite successful. He started his career at GTE where he eventually became Vice-President of Technology and Vice President of R&D. He co-founded and was general partner of Pilot House Ventures, a technology venture capital firm. He was also President of Scientific Atlanta’s transmission business from 1992-95. Fellows became Chief Technology Officer of ATT Broadband and in 2002 was instrumental in the merger with Comcast, assuming the same position with Comcast.

Fellows received numerous awards in his business career. He was named Communications Engineering and Design Man of the Year, was named Telephony magazine’s fiber optic visionary, and won the Vanguard Award for Technology, the Cable industry’s highest award. He retired from Comcast, but continued to serve them as a senior advisor, and remained chair of the Society of Cable and Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) Data Standards Subcommittee.
