Mike Gleason was a member of the Vesper BC eight which won the 1904 Olympics. Gleason then joined the Vesper crew when they traveled to England in 1905 and raced at the Henley Royal Regatta, where they were narrowly defeated by the Leander Club, a renowned British eight that did not compete in 1904 at St. Louis. Gleason was a long-time police officer in Philadelphia, where he was a native of the city.
