Jim McIntosh attended his hometown school, the University of Detroit, and rowed for the Detroit BC. He was the stroke-oar for their club crew at the 1956 Olympics. He continued to compete after the Olympics, winning a national title in 1959 in the pairs with. He later worked as an engineer for the General Motors Proving Ground for over 30 years. After retirement he attended and graduated from a carpenter’s trade school.
