John White rowed for the University of Washington freshman eight that won the IRA Regatta in 1935. In the next two years he moved up to their varsity boat, which also dominated the IRAs. White graduated with a degree in metallurgical engineering and later worked for Bethlehem Steel in sales, eventually becoming general manager of sales.
