An avid shooter, Floyd Nattrass joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police at a young age and served with them for several years prior to joining the Great Western Garment Company, where he worked for nearly half a century. By 1954 he was participating in trapshooting contests at a national level and was first selected to represent his country internationally at the 1958 ISSF World Shooting Championships. Following his appearance at the 1962 ISSF World Shooting Championships he was chosen to be part of Canada’s delegation to the shooting events at the 1964 Summer Olympics, where he placed twelfth in a field of fifty-one competitors in the trap tournament. His final major international competition was the 1969 World Shotgun Championships. Although he never won an international medal, he was the Canadian national trap shooting champion numerous times and received induction into the Alberta Trapshooting Hall of Fame. Outside of sport shooting, he was also a Golden Gloves boxing champion in his youth. He was a dedicated teacher and among his students was his daughter Susan, herself an international competitor who has made an appearance in six Summer Olympic Games since 1976 as of 2008.
