In 1972 Jim Platz became the regional trap shooting champion in Alberta to earn himself a place on the Canadian Olympic team. Platz then placed 29th in the trap event at the München Games, scoring 184 points out of a possible 200. He had better success three years later when he won silver in the team events at both the Pan American Games and the World Shooting Championships.
