Jalo Urho Autonen competed in the 1912 and 1924 Olympic Games in various shooting events. He came closest to a medal in 1924 in the running target team events. After attending the local Mikkeli high school he studied in Helsinki at the Department of Philosophy until 1909. During this time he also visited the Jyväskylä seminar. From 1906-47 he worked as a teacher in Helsinki, where he married Hanna Paavolainen in 1920.
