At the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics West German sports shooter Silvia Sperber finished 11th in the air rifle event. She was even more successful at Seoul in 1988, when she won the gold medal in the small-bore rifle three positions event, and the air rifle silver medal. As a result, she was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, Germany’s highest sports award. At Barcelona in 1992, at her third Olympics, she finished ninth with the air rifle, and 20th with the small-bore rifle.
With the air rifle team, Sperber also won the World Championships in 1983, and also the individual bronze medal. She also won two European Championships with the small-bore rifle, in 1989 and 1995, and added a bronze medal in 1991. Sperber later worked as an office clerk.
