Tibor Bodnár

At the age of sixteen, Tibor Bodnár applied to the Zalka KMFSE for shooting but was rejected as unfit. At the age of seventeen, he tried again and this time was allowed to stay. Two years later he won the silver medal in running target with his team, and finished fifth in the individual event at the World Shooting Championships. From thesecond half of the 1970s, Bodnár was one of the world’s best runningtarget shooters. He won the individual world title in 1979, the European title three times (1979, 1982, 1985), and took part in two Olympics (1976, 1980), with his 5th place in Moscow being his best result. Between 1974-86, Bodnár was a member of the Hungarian national team and was four times elected “the best sports shooter of the year” in Hungary (1978-79, 1981, 1984). During his sporting career, he worked at the Weapons and Gas Appliances Factory, and in 1987 became a dressmaker.
