Irish sports shooter Richard Flynn began his career in the 1950s, becoming one of the best trap shooters in the country. Flynn represented the Irish Clay Target Shooting Association, earning a place at the 1976 Montréal Olympics. At the Games he competed in the trap event, where he placed 15th with a score of 179, out of a possible 200. In 1996 he and his son William established the Courtlough Shooting Grounds in Balbriggan.
