Carsten Bruun graduated from the Norwegian Military Academy in 1890. He then studied electrical engineering at the Technische Hochschule Charlottenburg (now Berlin) and earned his diploma two years later. He retired from military service in 1916 with the rank of major. Additionally, he worked for the company Wisbech, which cooperated with the German company Siemens on Norway’s electrification. In 1901, Bruun became managing director of AEG Elektrisitetsaktieselskabet in Oslo, a position that he held until 1937. From 1907-25 he was also managing director of Norsk Elektroteknisk A/S in Kragerø. He was chairman of the board of some companies and active member of professional, cultural and social organizations.
Bruun was an active sport shooter representing Norway in trap shooting at the 1912 Olympic Games in Stockholm. He was appointed Knight of the 1st Class of the Order of St. Olav and a Knight of the Order of Dannebrog.
