Biography

Georgy Vishnyakov was a descendant of the nobility of the Pskov region in north-western Russia and the son of a general of the Imperial Army. He was educated in the 1st Cadet Corps and from 1890 at the Pavlovsk Military School, both in St. Petersburg. Vishnyakov began his military career with the 145th Novocherkassk Infantry Regiment Semyonovsky. In 1892 he was transferred to the Life Guards’ 1st Regiment. Until 1910 he was continuously promoted, eventually to the rank of colonel. In 1912 he competed in the Stockholm Olympics in two military rifle events.

Vishnyakov participated in World War I with his regiment, later as Commander of the 14th Georgian Grenadier Regiment and Brigade Commander in the rank of major general of the 51st Infantry Division. His two brothers Alexander and Nikolai were also career officers in the rank of colonel. In the Imperial Army he was awarded several degrees of the orders of St. Stanislaus, St. Anna, and St. Vladimir. After the October Revolution, Georgy Vishnyakov stayed in Russia living in Moskva (Moscow). He served in the Red Army, but little is known about his life after 1922.
