Philip Serjeant, a native of London, was one half of the inaugural Olympic delegation from Swaziland (later known as Eswatini) at München 1972 where he competed in trap and skeet shooting. He was one of three children born to Page and Martha Serjeant, his father was a hotel proprietor who conducted business in South Africa. Serjeant later worked as a salesman and professional hunter, residing in South Africa before moving to Swaziland with his wife, Vera. He owned a restaurant in Mbabane in the 1980s.
