Biography

Throughout the 1980s and 1990s Oleksandr Blizniuchenko competed in sports shooting for both the Soviet Union and Ukraine. Blizniuchenko was a multiple time national champion in air pistol events and also medals at international competitions. He won two bronze medals at the European Shooting Championships in the 50 metres free pistol team events in 1989 and 1993 before winning gold in the same event at the 1994 World Championships in Milano. Two years later Blizniuchenko represented Ukraine at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, competing in the 10 metres air pistol and the 50 metres free pistol, finishing 19th and 25th, respectively. He retired from competitions in the late 1990s and later trained fellow athletes at his local club.
