Over the course of his 12-year national career, from 1954 through 1966, Vasily Borisov became one of the top sport shooters ever produced by the Soviet Union. In three editions of the World Championships (1954, 1958, and 1962) he won 22 medals, 12 of which were gold. His skills also translated to the Olympic Games, where in five events between 1956 and 1960 he won one medal of each color and finished in fourth twice. He was also a European Champion nine times, a silver medalist thrice, and a bronze medalist three times. By career he served in the military for many years and later worked as a shooting coach.
