Kim Rhode is one of the most accomplished US Olympians in any sport. At this writing (January 2019), she has competed in six Olympic Games, consecutively from 1996-2016, and won a shooting medal at all six games. A shotgun shooter, Rhode won gold medals in double trap in 1996 and 2004, skeet in 2012, and added a silver medal in 2008 skeet shooting, and bronze medals in 2000 double trap and 2016 skeet shooting.
After 2016, Rhode stood as one of only seven Olympians, any sport or nation, to win medals at six Olympics, and she and Armin Zoggeler are the only two athletes to win individual medals at six Olympics. Rhode uniquely has done this at the Summer Olympic Games. She is one of only 11 female Olympians to win medals over a 20-year span (or greater).
Rhode has also won five medals at the World Championships, including golds in skeet in 2010 and a team skeet gold in 2018. She likewise won five medals, including four golds, at the Pan American Games. She was named a distinguished International Shooter in 1995. Through 2018, Rhode has 34 medals and 19 golds in World Cup competition.
Rhode studied pre-veterinary medicine at Cal Poly Pomona, but did not go to veterinary school. She later hosted the Outdoor Channel’s program “Step Outside.”
