David Alcoriza came from a shooting family as his father, Ron, was a shotgun shooter who was inducted into the Trapshooting Hall of Fame in 2012. Dave competed on the US Army Marksmanship Unit for eight years, including during his appearance at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. He was a two-time medalist at the World Championships in team double trap, winning gold in 2001 and a bronze in 1997. Alcoriza later coached high school basketball in Tokay, California.
