Biography
Ray Bracken was a lumberjack from Columbus, Ohio in 1920. He was coached by his friend and fellow Olympian James Snook, who has the dubious distinction of being the only Olympian to die in the electric chair for first-degree murder. Bracken’s first major success was winning the pistol novice match at the United States Revolver Association National Championship in 1917. He made the US pistol-shooting team after qualifying in the trials held in July 1920 at Quantico, Virginia. In addition to his medal-winning Olympic performances Bracken placed fifth in the individual free pistol event.
