Vaughan Cail was born in Canada but moved to the United States with his family when he was 8 years old. From his youth he had a fascination with firearms and his entire life was spent in either shooting sport or the shooting business. He became the manufacturing superintendent for Winchester firearms, including the M-14. He built many custom rifles, including one for movie star Gary Cooper. After the 1948 Oympics, Cail formed Cail and Son’s Sports Center where he remained in the arms business for the next 25 years, before retiring.
