Roger Mar starting shooting at age seven, taught by his father, who was a scoutmaster. He ended up competing twice at the Olympics in rapid-fire pistol. He was the youngest pistol shooter at the Barcelona Olympics. Mar won a gold medal at the 1991 Pan American Games in team rapid-fire pistol. He also won a bronze medal and team gold at the 1992 Mexico World Cup.
