Tommy Pool’s first international experience came at the 1959 Pan-American Games when he won a gold, three silvers, and one bronze medal. After that he became U.S. champion in the English match in 1961 and 1962. At the 1964 Olympics, Pool competed in both small-bore events and, besides winning a bronze in the English match, he was doing well in the 3-position match until his standing scores pulled him down out of medal contention.
