Jay Waldron was a trap shooter who competed at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, placing sixth. Waldron was twice World Junior Clay Target Champion, winning in 1983 and 1985. His best year as a senior was likely 1991 when he won individual gold at the Pan American Games, adding a silver in team trap. That year he was also fifth in trap and seventh in double trap at the World Championships.
Waldron taught shooting at the Hillsboro Trap & Skeet Club in Eugene, Oregon. He was later hired by USA Shooting as assistant national shotgun coach and resident program manager at the US Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.
