William Whaling shot rapid-fire pistol at the 1924 Paris Olympics. At the time he was a lieutenant in the US Marine Corps. Whaling was a career military officer who eventually became a major-general in the Marines. He entered the Marines in May 1917 and served in both World Wars. Whaling was buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
