Australian swimmer Neil Rogers was 16-years-old when he represented his country at the 1970 British Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh, Scotland. Rogers won an individual bronze in the 200 metres backstroke and a team silver in the 4 x 100 metres medley relay. Two years later he swam in four events at the 1972 München Olympics, finishing eighth in the final of the 100 metres butterfly. He returned to the British Commonwealth Games for the 1974 edition in Christchurch, New Zealand, with him winning gold in the 100 metres butterfly. He also won silver in the 4 x 100 metres freestyle and medley relays. Rogers then competed at his second Olympics, swimming in three events at the 1976 Montréal Games. He again finished eighth in the 100 metres butterfly and sixth in the 4 × 100 metres medley relay. His older brother Greg was also a champion swimmer.
