Competitive diver Arthur Winther was born in Victoria before moving to Surfers Paradise, Queensland. Winther competed in the springboard event at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics where he finished in 17th place. In 1961 he won the high board event at the Queensland State Championships, beating the strong favourite Graham Deuble.
