Biography

Yelena Rudkovskaya took up swimming in 1983 and made her international début at the 1991 European Championships, where she won gold in both breaststroke distances and the medley relay. At the 1992 Olympics Rudkovskaya won gold in the 100 breaststroke, placing fourth in the 200 breast. She was also a member of the Unified Team’s bronze medal-winning medley relay team. After the fall of the Soviet Union, Rudkovskaya represented her native Belarus, but her results declined. She won bronze in the 100 breaststroke at the 1993 European Championships and also competed at the 1994 World Championships and 1996 Olympics, but did not reach the finals at those meets. She was selected as the best Belorussian Sportsman of the Year in 1991 and 1992.

Personal Best: 100 m breaststroke – 1:08.00 (1992); 200 m breaststroke – 2:28.24 (1992).
