In 1930, Marjorie Linton set a Canadian record of 3:20 in the 220 yard backstroke, which lasted for over three years, until it was bettered by Ruth Kerr. Linton also competed in the 100 yard freestyle event at that year’s British Empire Games, at the age of only 13, and placed fourth, but was more successful in the 4x100 yard freestyle relay, where she won silver alongside Betty Edwards, Irene Pirie, and the non-Olympian Peggy Bailey. Two years later Linton débuted for Canada at the Summer Olympics, but was eliminated in the opening rounds of both the 100 metre freestyle and backstroke events. She graduated from the St. Michael’s School of Nursing in Toronto in 1942 and had a career as a Registered Nurse until her retirement.
