Vilhelm Lindgrén had just turned 17 when he competed in the 1912 Olympics in Stockholm. However, he failed to advance to the second round in both the 200 and 400 metres breaststroke. The following year he set a Finnish 100 metres breast record 1:22.5, which remained unbroken for 17 years.
