Kathinka Larsen did not start diving competitively until she was 21, and first attracted attention in 1934 when she won the London Diving Club Springboard Championship, and also took a silver medal in the 3-metre event at the European Championships. She also represented England in the British Empire Games that same year. She retained the London club title in 1935 and 1936, and in the first of those years, won her first ASA diving title. Larsen also won the Middlesex and Southern Counties titles in 1934-36.
