Stanley Mercer took part in the final springboard trial for the 1924 Olympics, but did not make the Great Britain squad. He finished third in the Amateur Diving Association (ADA) Springboard Championships in 1925, and three years later was selected for the Amsterdam Games after winning the final Olympic trial at Blackpool. Mercer won the ADA title that year and retained it in 1929.
