The Highgate Diving Club’s junior champion in 1938, Gordon Ward was third in the ASA Plain Diving Championship at New Brighton the following year. He was also the 1939 Middlesex high board champion, and after the War, won the 1948 national title, which gained Ward selection onto the Great Britain Olympic team. He won the 1949 Southern Counties high diving title, and in 1952 came close to a second national title, when finishing second to Highgate team-mate Tony Turner.
